Introduction
As the mining industry accelerates toward net-zero, hydrogen has emerged as a complementary pathway to full electrification, offering long-range operation and rapid refuelling where batteries alone may be limited. The NTH150 fuel cell haul truck demonstrates how hydrogen propulsion can be adapted for heavy-duty mining, bridging today’s hybrid technology with tomorrow’s fully sustainable fleets.

NHL NTH150 HYDROGEN FUEL CELL HAUL TRUCK
Alta's Scope of Work
Alta was engaged by NHL to complete the NTH150 fuel cell prototype, ensuring full system integration and operational delivery.
Technology Snapshot
The NTH150 employs 17 hydrogen fuel cells, each producing 90 kWh, delivering a combined total of 1,560 kWh of clean electric power. Hydrogen is stored in gaseous form at high pressure, providing consistent energy for continuous haul operations.
Outcome & Significance
The NTH150 represents an important milestone in hydrogen mining technology, proving the viability of large-scale fuel cell propulsion in high-demand environments. Beyond its immediate performance, the project establishes the technical framework for future hybrid/hydrogen integration and positions Alta at the forefront of scalable, zero emission powertrain development for the mining sector.
